The Franke Center Youth Theater is pleased to offer a new series of classes for students: a Musical Theater Performance class and a Musical Theater Dance class. As these classes will be taking place during the day and during the week, they will be primarily for homeschooled students or for students who have a flexible schedule.
Musical Theater Performance
Instructor: Jocelyn France
Students will have age-appropriate opportunities to study theater through the process of planning, producing, rehearsing and presenting a variety of theater projects, including short plays, scenes and monologues, storytelling, and other theater performances. Students will learn acting techniques for auditions and staged performances. They will develop the skills to perform a song, prepare for auditions, and act in the context of a stage musical. Classes will include special guests with expertise in various theater-related fields. Students will work on character development and storytelling through dance, acting, and song in musical theater classes. Master choreography before jumping into singing and acting technique courses. Plus, students will learn all about the theater industry, from audition techniques to what a Broadway rehearsal is like. Materials needed: 1 inch 3 ring binder with lined paper, pencils and highlighter. Attire: jazz shoes and comfortable athletic clothing.

1st – 4th graders – Wednesdays 9am – 10am
5th – 8th graders – Wednesdays 10:10am – 11:10am
9th – 12th graders – Wednesdays – 11:30am – 12:30pm
Classes begin September 10th, 2025 and end December 17th
Musical Theater Dance
Instructor: Angela Gerten
This application is designed to give the Musical Theatre performer the essential training in various dance techniques, an understanding of the structure behind stage choreography, and an insight into the necessary showmanship and performance of that choreography. This class focusses on techniques and skills instrumental in Broadway-style choreography. Students will explore various dance styles through technical training at their appropriate level throughout the year as well as prepare performance pieces. Materials needed: 1 inch 3 ring binder with lined paper, pencils and highlighter. Shoes: Students will need either ballet slippers or jazz shoes and a pair of tap shoes. A canvas or leather ballet slipper or a usual black soft-soled jazz shoe is fine. Students will also need any style of tap shoe. A flat, non-split sole tap shoe is recommended. Recommended attire: Boys – form-fitting white or black t-shirt; fitted black jazz pants/shorts Girls – black leotard & pink tights or light tights; fitted black jazz pants/shorts

K – 4th graders – Thursdays – 9am – 10am
5th – 8th graders – Thursdays – 10:10am – 11:10am
9th – 12th graders – Thursdays – 11:30am – 12:30pm
Classes begin September 11th, 2025 and end December 18th
